A Good Year for "Fuck For Forest"

Fuck For Forest, a documentary film directed by Michał Marczak and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, has had a successful year at film festivals around the world. The film was also released theatrically in Poland and has enjoyed a good result in terms of admissions.

Polish Premiere

Fuck For Forest had its Polish premiere on October 13, 2012 at the 28th edition of the Warsaw Film Festival. At the Q&A session after the screening, the film’s director Michał Marczak discussed his filmmaking process: “Before deciding to film, I watched them for about a year. […] When Danny showed up and the possibility to travel to the Amazon came to light, I decided that it would be a good idea to make the film. I was afraid, because I knew that the project could fail at any moment, which is why I, the producer, and Artur Liebhart of Against Gravity decided to financed the first part ourselves, and only apply for financing once we are sure that we have enough footage for a film; that something can be made of it.”

At the Warsaw Film Festival, Fuck For Forest received the Grand Prize in the Documentary Competition. The festival prize was awarded by international jury members: film producer Jana Cisar, director Thymaya Payne, and writer/journalist Mariusz Szczygieł.

World Sales Agent

Already in May 2012, the filmmakers managed to bring a world sales agent on board: Dogwoof, a UK-based doc sales agent. Fuck For Forest was subsequently released theatrically in Germany, England, Ireland, and Norway. On November 23, 2012 the film was released theatrically in Poland, screening in over 100 cinemas, not only multiplex venues but also single screenings at small art-house cinemas. Distribution in Poland is handled by Against Gravity; the company also handles the film’s DVD release.

Fuck For Forest at Film Festivals

The European premiere of Michał Marczak’s Fuck For Forest took place at the 42nd Rotterdam International Film Festival, where the film screened in the festival’s Bright Future section that showcases new talents – first- and second-time directors. To date, the film has screened at over 60 international film festivals, including SXSW (US premiere), FF True/False, Cinéma du Réel, Hot Docs, CPH:DOX, and the Environmental Film Festival in Melbourne. At the 19th Sheffield Doc/Fest International Documentary Film Festival, Fuck For Forest received special mention in the Sheffield Green Award competition.
