Three young characters from Belarus, Ukraine and Afghanistan on their journey in search of a better life and away from evil. Three people for whom Poland has become the eponymous “New World.”

Having left her Belarusian opposition activist husband, Żanna and her daughter are now staying with Żanna’s sister in Warsaw. She wants to move into a place of her own as soon as possible, and build a new life with her boyfriend. Her plans are thwarted after her husband is once again arrested.

Azzam, an Afghani man working as a translator for the Polish army, is seen as a traitor by his fellow countrymen. After being evacuated to Poland, he is still unable to shake off the trauma of war.

Vera is a Ukrainian woman who flees to Poland to undergo a sex change operation – a secret she is keeping from her family. An unexpected visit from her father and young son forces Vera to reevaluate the question of her own identity.
