On Thursday, Michael, a career oriented young German lawyer, refuses to take the case of an African refugee. He wants to know why Franz, his boss and friend, gives the case to him. On Friday, Michael, a Polish immigrant, greets his father Stanislaw in Polish. It’s the first time the two men see each other. Michael had been raised by his mother in Poland, convinced that his father was dead. Now Michael, a selfmade man, has one week end to meet his maker — a complete stranger with a life-wearied look, far from the symbolic father figure. What was meant to be a weekend of closure, ended up opening old wounds of being unloved. After Stanislaw’s departure on Monday, Michael starts seeing his life in Berlin in a different light. He learns that he is tolerated in Germany. Does he feel loved?
