Katarzyna Kwiatkowska received the Best Actress Award of the Voices International Festival in Vologda for her performance in Dzień kobiet (Women’s Day), a film directed by Maria Sadowska and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

Dzień kobiet (Women’s Day) is a film inspired by real events. Halina, a single mother, works for the ‘Motylek’ supermarket chain. When she is promoted to manager, her life changes overnight. Her new position brings extra perks and a higher salary, but Halina soon learns that this comes at a very high price. When the company does wrong by its employees once again, Halina challenges her supervisors, risking terrible consequences. The owners of the company will stop at nothing to hide their dirty secrets.
A Film Starring Katarzyna Kwiatkowska
The lead role was played by Katarzyna Kwiatkowska, with supporting performances by Eryk Lubos, Grażyna Barszczewska, Klara Bielawka, Dorota Kolak, Leonard Pietraszak, Anita Jańcia, and Agata Kulesza. The film was written by Maria Sadowska and Katarzyna Terechowicz, and lensed by Radosław Ładczuk.
Grand Prix at the Cottbus Film Festival
Dzień kobiet (Women’s Day) had its Polish premiere at the 37th Gdynia Film Festival, screening in Main Competition, while its international premiere took place at the 22nd Cottbus International Film Festival, where the film won the Grand Prize. Sadowska’s feature also won Best Screenplay awards at the ‘Young and Cinema’ festival in Koszalin and the Polish Film Festival in Toronto. Katarzyna Kwiatkowska received the Best Actress award at the Prowincjonalia festival, while Maria Sadowska has won the Janusz Morgenstern ‘Perspektywy’ Award.
Film Debut Supported by the Polish Film Institute
Dzień kobiet (Women’s Day) is the feature debut from director Maria Sadowska. The film was produced by the Andrzej Munk ‘Młodzi i Film’ Studio of the Polish Filmmakers Association, and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute. Dzień kobiet was released theatrically in Poland on March 8, 2013, with distribution handled by Kino Świat.
