Jakub Stożek received Honourable Mention for his film Poza zasięgiem (Out of Reach) at the Sundance Film Festival.

The documentary Out of Reach tells the story of Karolina and Klaudia, two teenaged girls seeking to get back in touch with their long-absent mother.


Films from around the world screened in the international competition, judged by jury memers: director and screenwriter Barry Jenkins, writer and critic Kim Morgan, and Sara Bernstein of HBO Documentary. The awards ceremony was held on January 25. Along with Stożek’s film, honourable mention went to five other short films from Canada, Italy, Germany, and Spain.


Out of Reach was one of 81 films screening in the short film competition at Sundance. The film was selected for screening at Sundance after winning the Short Film Competition at the 50th Krakow Film Festival. Stożek’s short film had also won an award at the 5th DOCSDF International Documentary Film Festival in Mexico. Out of Reach was produced by Darklight Film Studio and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.


The top prize in the US short film competition at Sundance went to Brick Novax pt 1 and 2 by Matt Piedmont. The jury prize in the international short film competition went to Deeper Than Yesterday by Australian director Ariel Kleiman.

The closing ceremony of the Sundance Film Festival will be held on January 29.
