"Maria Skłodowska-Curie" Nominated For German Film Awards

Nominations for the Lola German Film Awards (Deutscher Filmpreis – Lola) were announced on March 16. Maria Skłodowska-Curie (Marie Curie), a Polish-German-French-Belgian co-production co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, has been nominated in three of the awards’ 16 categories.

The Lola Deutscher Filmpreis has been awarded annually since 1951 by the German Film Academy. Winning films and filmmakers are selected by over 1,800 Academy members working in the German film industry.

Best Make-Up – Waldemar Pokromski

Among nominees for this year’s award for Best Make-Up is Polish make-up artist Waldemar Pokromski. Other nominees in this category include Kathi Kullack (for Das Kalte Herz) and Astrid Weber and Hannah Fischleder (for Paula). Waldemar Pokromski has previously received the German Film Award; in 2009, he won Best Make-Up for his work on Michael Haneke’s The White Ribbon, together with Anette Keiser.

Waldemar Pokromski has worked with Steven Spielberg, Tom Tykwer, and Roman Polański. He was responsible for make-up on the Oscar-winning The Counterfeiters by Stefana Ruzowitzky and The Baader-Meinhof Complex by Uni Edel. His work can also be seen in acclaimed Polish films, including Mistyfikacja by Jacek Koprowicz, Tatarak (Sweet Rush) by Andrzej Wajda, Rewers (The Reverse) by Borys Lankosz, and Janosik by Agnieszka Holland.

Best Costume Design and Best Original Score

Chris Pidre and Florence Scholtes have been nominated for the costume design on Maria Skłodowska-Curie (Marie Curie). They are competing against Frauke Firl (Paula) and Gioia Raspé (Die Blumen von Gestern).

French complser Bruno Coulais has been nominated for the film’s original score. Other nominees in the Best Original Score category include Oli Biehler (Das Kalte Herz) and Johannes Repka (Tim Thaler oder Verkaufte Lachen).

The awards ceremony will be held on April 28.

Maria Skłodowska-Curie (Marie Curie) was released theatrically in Poland on March 3. Distribution in Poland is handled by Kino Świat.
