Nomination for "The Big Leap"

The Big Leap, a film by Kristoffer Rus, is one of five films nominated for the best short film award at the UK-based Raindance festival.

The Big Leap

Does God exist? Everything began with that simple question, which Swedish director Kristoffer Rus wanted to ask in the age of the global economic crisis. Three protagonists meet on the roof a skyscraper. They share a common goal: they want to commit suicide due to the global economic crisis. The problem begins when it becomes apparent that each of these three individuals has different views on life after death: Sarah is religious, John is an atheist, while Ben is an on-the-fence agnostic. The only way to find out who is right is to take the Big Leap. The film stars Tilly Scott Pedersen (Sarah), Gustaf Skarsgård (John), and Arkadiusz Jakubik (Ben).

The Big Leap is a Polish-Swedish co-production. The film was produced by Prasa i Film and co-produced by East of West Cinema AB, TVP S.A., ATM FX, and WFDiF. The Big Leap was also co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

Raindance Film Festival

The Raindance Film Festival is one of the most interesting showcases of independent filmmaking in the world. Apart from a film festival, Raindance features workshops, masterclasses and conferences, and serves to promote independent film in a year-long series of screenings. The 21st edition of the festival will run from September 25 through October 6 in London. This year’s Raindance jury members include Julian Assange (WikiLeaks), actor Jason Flemyng, and Portishead lead singer Beth Gibbons. The awards will be presented at the festival’s closing gala, which will be held on October 5 in London’s Vue Piccadilly cinema.

The screening of The Big Leap at the Raindance Film Festival is scheduled for 12.00pm on September 28 at the Vue Piccadilly cinema, in the ‘Pulp Fictions’ series.
