"TENANTS" WIN STUDENT OSCAR
Lokatorki (Tenants), a short film directed by Klara Kochańska and produced by the Łódź Film School, received the bronze medal at the 43rd edition of the Student Oscars.
Lokatorki (Tenants) Recognised by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences
The Student Oscars are awarded annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to the best student films in the following categories: Animation, Documentary, Narrative, Alternative, Foreign Narrative, Foreign Animation, and Foreign Documentary. Winners are eligible for nominations for the 2016 Oscars. This year, the Academy received 1,749 entries from 286 American and 95 international colleges and universities, only 5 percent of which, or approximately 80 films, qualified for the semi-finals.
Bronze Medal for Lokatorki (Tenants)
Along with Klara Kochańska’s Lokatorki (Tenants), two other students were recognised, both from Germany: Alex Schaad for Invention of Trust and Felix Ahrens for Where the Woods End. The Student Oscars awards ceremony was held in Los Angeles on September 22. The bronze medal went to Tenants , the golden medal went to Invention of Trust and the silver medal to Woods End.
Lokatorki (Tenants) is the story of Justyna, a single woman in her thirties, who buys an apartment at a bailiff auction, despite the inherent risk. On the day she chooses to move into her dream home, it turns out that the keys don’t work and Justyna cannot enter her apartment. Sometimes dreams can easily turn into nightmares.
The film has previously received acclaim at the Warsaw Film Festival, winning its Grand Prize, and at the Global Chinese Universities Student Film and TV Festival, winning the award for best foreign film. Most recently, the film screened within the framework of the Future Frames programme at the 51st Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. In July, Lokatorki (Tenants) received the Grand Jury Prize at the FIRST International Film Festival in China.
