Stalowy Topor, called The Steel Axe, is a shepherd in a valley in north Mongolia in the summer and a shaman in Ulan Bator in the winter. He recently decided to take part in elections for the Mongolian parliment. Will this pauper’s courage and wits provide a better future for his fellow citizens as well as respect and a good reputation in 21st-century Mongolia? From various perspectives, we look at the everyday life of post-Soviet Mongolian nomad society, now living in a world of globalisation and free markets.
