Council of Europe Forum: cinema and cultural diversity
Strategies for financing cinematography, legal regulations and the role of cinema in shaping human rights consciousness and keeping cultural diversity: these were the main topics of discussion at the Council of Europe Forum that began in Kraków on Thursday.
Polish Films at World Festivals
This year seven films co-financed by the Polish Film Institute will be shown at important world festivals, including in Venice, Montreal, Toronto, Tokyo, Busan, and Mar del Plata.

Silver Leopard for "33 Scenes from Life" by Małgorzata Szumowska
The film 33 Scenes from Life (33 sceny z życia) directed by Małgorzata Szumowska who also provided the screenplay garnered a Silver Leopard as a Special Jury Award at the 61st Locarno International Film Festival. This is one of the biggest awards in Polish cinematography in recent years.

Poland at the 61st Cannes Film Festival
Poland will show Four Nights with Anna (Cztery noce z Anną) by Jerzy Skolimowski, Katyń by Andrzej Wajda, the feature documentary Gugara, and students' études. The Polish stall has a prominent place next to the Festival's Palace.

Film "Up the Yangtze" a winner at 5th Planete Doc Review
A film by Yung Chang received the Grand Prix at the Planete Doc Review Film Festival. Over 20 000 viewers watched 106 documentary films during the event.
The establishment of the Andrzej Munk Studio "The Youth and Film"
It is to be a place of unrestricted freedom for young filmmakers to pursue creativity, invention, and aesthetic quests. An agreement on creating the Andrzej Munk Studio was signed by Bogdan Zdrojewski, Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Agnieszka Odorowicz, General Director of the Polish Film Institute, and Jacek Bromski, President of the General Board of the Polish Filmmakers Association.
New Polish Film Festival Filmland Polen in Germany
The 6th New Polish Film Festival Filmland Polen 2008 is in progress. Films are being presented in Hannover, Hamburg, Lübeck and Bremen.

Awards at 9th International Film Festival "Crossroads of Europe"
The film The First Day (Pierwszy dzień) by Marcin Sauter was awarded the Grand Prix at the 9th International Film Festival "Crossroads of Europe" in Lublin. The Special Award funded by the Polish Film Institue was presented by General Director Agnieszka Odorowicz to the film The Independent (Niezależni) by Jacek Talczewski.

Last weekend the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of Polish animation began in Wrocław with a concert, "Gloria Animatoris!", directed by Kasia Adamik.
