Capri Legend Award for Skolimowski
At the recently closed film festival on the Italian island of Capri, Jerzy Skolimowski received the Capri Legend award, presented to the world's most acclaimed filmmakers for significant contribution to the development of world cinema.
"A Piece of Summer" at Clermont
The lineup of the Clermont-Ferrand International Film Festival, one of the world's leading events for short film, has been announced. Kawałek lata (A Piece of Summer) by Marta Minorowicz, produced by the Polish Filmmakers Association Munk Studio within the "First Documentary" framework, will screen in the festival's Main Competition.
Awards for Polish Filmmakers
Two international film festivals wrapped on December 12, both bringing awards to Polish filmmakers. Paweł Sala and his feature Matka Teresa od kotów (Mother Teresa of Cats) won an award at the 11th Tbilisi International Film Festival in Tbilisi, Georgia. Meanwhile at the 51st Thessaloniki International Film Festival in Thessaloniki, Greece, Dorota Kędzierzawska received a Lifetime Achievement award, and Marek Lechki received the Best Screenplay award for his feature Erratum.
10th Watch Docs IFF Awards
The 10th annual Watch Docs International Film Festival - Human Rights in Film came to a close. The international jury granted the Watch Docs Award to Winds of Sand, Women of Rock by Nathalie Borgers. The winning film is a Austrian-Belgian-French co-production.

The Grand Prize of the 13th edition of the Kyoto International Student Film and Video Festival went to Ciemnego pokoju nie trzeba się bać (Don't Be Afraid of the Dark Room) by Kuba Czekaj.
"Little Bride" Awarded in Mexico
Lesław Dobrucki's documentary Przyrzeczona (Little Bride) was awarded in Mexico. The film was produced by the Andrzej Wajda Master School of Film Directing.
"Out of Reach" at Sundance
The Sundance Institute announced the programme of short films selected to screen at the upcoming Sundance Film Festival. The list of 81 titles includes the winner of the International Short Film Competition at this year's Krakow Film Festival - Poza zasięgiem (Out of Reach) by Jakub Stożek. This documentary film was produced by Darklight Film Studio, and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.
Polish Films in the Netherlands
Feature films Dekalog 89+ vol. 1 (Decalogue 89+ Vol. 1) and Dekalog 89+ vol. 2 (Decalogue 89+ Vol. 2), Animowana historia Polski (Animated History of Poland) by Tomasz Bagiński, as well as Trick by Jan Hryniak and Rewers (Reverse) by Borys Lankosz screened at the jubilee Polish film weekend in the Hague, organized under the patronage of the Polish Scene in the Netherlands - Pools Podium Association, and in co-operation with the Embassy of Poland in the Netherlands.
Reinhart Wins Golden Frog
The 18th Plus Camerimage International Festival of the Art of Cinematography drew to a close in its new Bydgoszcz venue.
Award for "Hanoi-Warsaw"
At the December 4 awards ceremony in Tallinn, the short feature Hanoi-Warszawa (Hanoi-Warsaw) by Katarzyna Klimkiewicz received the award for European Film Academy Short Film. Awards of the European Film Academy are among Europe's most prestigious film trophies.
Six awards, including European Film 2010, European Director, and European Screenwriter, went to Roman Polański's Ghost Writer.
"The Mill & the Cross" at Sundance
Młyn i krzyż (The Mill and the Cross), the latest film by Lech Majewski, will have its world premiere at Sundance - the world's largest independent film festival, taking place in Park City, USA.

Skolimowski: Guest at Camerimage
The Plus Camerimage Film Festival in Bydgoszcz features a retrospective of films by Jerzy Skolimowski. Audiences will have the opportunity to see not only the acclaimed director's latest films such as Cztery noce z Anną (Four Nights with Anna) and Essential Killing, but also his films from the 1960s. Awarded around the world, these minimalist films are not widely known to contemporary audiences. After Ręce do góry (Hands Up!) and its unfavourable reception and subsequent banning by the censor's office, Skolimowski decided to stop directing.

Polish Films in Tallinn
Five Polish films are featured in the lineup of the 14th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia. A short feature made by a student of the Łódź Film School also received an award at one of the Black Nights festival's side events.

November 25 brought the closing ceremony of the 17th "Etiuda&Anima" International Film Festival in Krakow.
Polish Animations Compete for Oscar Nominations
According to the US-based website Cartoonbrew, the latest films by two Polish filmmakers: Danny Boy by Marek Skrobecki and Animowana historia Polski (Animated History of Poland) by Tomasz Bagiński are among 33 titles that fulfilled the necessary qualifications to be considered for an Academy Award nomination in the Best Animated Short category.
"Essential Killing" Triumphs at Mar del Plata IFF
Jerzy Skolimowski's latest feature received the Golden Astor (Astor de Oro) Grand Prize at the 25th Mar del Plata International Film Festival in Argentina, which closed today. The Silver Astor (Astor de Plata) Best Actor Award went to Vincent Gallo, who played the lead in Jerzy Skolimowski's film, portraying an Afghan fugitive by the name of Mohammed. Essential Killing also received the ACCA Award (Argentinian Film Chronist Association). The Mar del Plata awards mark yet another prestigious win for Essential Killing, after the success in Venice last September.
"Back to Your Arms" Premiere
November 17 marks the premiere of the Polish-Lithuanian co-production Back to Your Arms (Powrócić w twe ramiona) by Kristijonad Vildžiūnas. The film will premiere within the framework of the "Scanorama" European Film Forum in Vilnius.
"North of Calabria" Premiere
Marcin Sauter's documentary film Na północ od Kalabrii (North of Calabria) had its premiere on November 16 at Warsaw's Kultura cinema. On November 19 the film will be released in Warsaw, Krakow, and Poznan. Later it will screen throughout Poland.
